Why You Need To Smile Early And Often!

There’s no doubt about it! Happiness makes this world a brighter, more enjoyable place. And the best way to show and share happiness is to smile to yourself and to others…a lot!

The act of smiling, and the cheerfulness that goes hand in hand with it, can deliver many benefits:

-Smiling brightens your mood and the moods of others. People like to be around others who have bright outlooks. They are trying to enhance themselves, too!

-Cheerful smiling has great physiological effects on the body’s organ systems. The release or serotonin and other neurotransmitters related to good feelings boosts the psyche and the immunological reserves of a person. Vigorous exercise makes the body release specific neurotransmitters to build the body up and the effects last for several days. Repeat the work out again to keep the temple of the body in shape.

-Lifting the face with a smile helps one to look younger and more vivacious. One of my dentist friends calls the smile an immediate face-lift…that you don’t have to pay for!

-A beautiful smile makes a man or a woman more attractive. They are also thought to be friendlier, more outgoing, and more likely to move up in the business world. A study was done where selected people were asked to look at pictures in a yearbook and rate the people who they thought, just by their looks and smile, if they would be likely to succeed in later life. Guess what…the people with great smiles did go on to make something good of themselves.

-Hans Selye, an endocrinologist who laid the groundwork of the theories of stress in our lives, concluded that how people perceive stressful challenges in life will determine if they see it with negative implications, or distress, or with positive implications, or eustress. We all know that acute and chronic distress takes a toll on the body, especially with the blood pressure. Engaging in activities that bring out the best in us, and in challenges that we savor, gives us an opportunity to participate in eustressful situations! I can conquer that!

May you have many… blessful and eustressful…smiles!
