Put Down The Floss And Step Away From The Toothbrush: Dental Plaque’s Revenge Part II!

OKAY, SO YOU’RE FORCED AGAINST YOUR WILL TO BE UNDER AN UNBEARABLY HOT, SQUEAKY, AND SWINGING INTERROGATION LAMP, YOU’RE DUCT TAPED, HANDS AND ALL, TO A VERY CHEAP AND UNCOMFORTABLE CHAIR THAT, ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF RUSTY SCREWS THAT ARE CUTTING INTO YOUR SKIN, HAS ONE ALMOST-BROKEN LEG, WHICH MAKES YOU SUPER-ANGRY BECAUSE IT UNEXPECTEDLY TILTS AT THE EXACT RIGHT TIME TO MAKE THINGS GO WORSE, AND THERE ARE MANY LARGE AND ANGRY HORSEFLIES BUZZING AROUND YOU AND LANDING AND WALKING ON YOUR FACE, LIKE THEY ARE JUST DARING YOU TO TRY TO SWAT THEM AWAY, AND, YOU’RE SWEATING BULLETS LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW—AND AT HIS RATE THERE MIGHT NOT BE ONE IN YOUR CARDS—AND YOUR INTERROGATOR, A PENCIL-NECKED PIP SQUEEK OF A PERSON, WHO, IN HIGH SCHOOL, WAS BULLIED BY 4TH GRADERS, AND WHO’S STILL NOTORIOUSLY SCARED OF HIS OWN SHADOW, IS POPPING HIS GLOVES TO SCARE YOU MORE, AS HE PREPARES TO DO SOME PAINFUL PROCEDURES, IF YOU DON’T GIVE UP YOUR SECRET FORMULA, when all of a sudden, the handsome, wise, and muscular HSR knocks down the heavy door, quickly vanquishes the enemies in a flash, and ceremoniously rescues you and your “I’m going on a two month luxury cruise around both sides of South America” smile, just in time for you to open up your ice cream stand and serve a block-long line of kids!

“Enjoying music and big time thoughts that make us and the world advance, indeed synergize a progress that we can stand up and clap, and even dance to!”

If a bacterium was as big as a human, you can bet that it would try to sneak up on us from behind and take us out…

…in a very “not pretty” way!...

…each and everyone of us!

That’s what they do…

…they live off of us!...

…and they really just love it when we put off cleaning the teeth!...

They will try to hypnotize us into not taking care of our teeth…so that they can stay alive, thrive, and infectacize!

That’s right…

They might try to jerk us around, and say stuff like:

YOU ALL WHO CALL YOURSELF MEN AND WOMEN, HUMANETH IN FORM, MOVEMENT, AND THOUGHT:

YOU ARE OFFICIALLY HERETOFORE PUT ON CONSRUCTIVE AND DELIBERATIVE NOTICE:

THAT ALL BACTERIA AND THE OTHER BROTHERLY MICROBES OF THE TOTAL ORAL MICROBIOME HAVE SIGNED, SEALED, AND DELIVERED AN EARTHLY PACT—DULY RATIFIED AND CODIFIED INTO OUR LAWS GOVERNING THE BEHAVIOR OF ALL MICROSCOPIC LIFE, BOTH UNICELLULAR, MULTICELLUAR, OR EVEN PRIONIC, OR SPOROCIFIC IN NATURE,

AND WE SHALL ATTACK WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD…

…ON THE ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR LEVEL WHERE WE GENERATE OUR DESTRUCTIVE DEGRADATION,

BY EACH MEMBER OF OUR CEASELESSLY AND INCESSANTLY GROWING NUMBERS,

AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE

WHETHER OR NOT :

-YOU TRY TO EMASCUATE AND REDUCE OUR NUMBERS AND THE SEVERITY OF OUR EFFECTS…

SO, RIGHT NOW, PUT DOWN THE FLOSS…

THAT’S RIGHT…EASY NOW…

…AND STEP AWAY FROM THAT TOOTHBRUSH…

DO IT NOW…

AND NO ONE GETS HURT!

...THATS GOOD...

These bacteria are literally saying and pushing that in our faces in a daily basis!

They are like thugs prowling the oral streets and surfaces of the mouth, be it the between-teeth embrasures, gingival sulcuses, and especially within the infinite cracks, grooves, and crevasses of the dorsum of the tongue!

So, brothers and sisters…

…get used to the fact that dental plaque and biofilm are here to stay with you…for the rest of your natural life!

Yes, it’s an eternal fight, but don’t let plaque win and cover your teeth and mouth…

…and grow to the point that it starts looking like some…slimy, mossy, yucky stuff!

Noooooo!...Save ‘um!...Pleeease!

May you have many… just do as I say, and nobody gets hurt, but don’t worry, the advice is not bad for you or your health!…I highly recommend eating a totally peeled, large ripe mango with your bare hands—so what if the juices run down your arms all the way to the elbows!...the inherent DNA boss within the cells of trees commands them all to reach out and grow from tiny twigs to as muscularly tall, wide, strong, and sun-rays-catching living monoliths as plantly possible, for the sake of the future of the forest and the phylum!...smiles!

The Last Secret Baby Tooth! Part 8.

I’M IN MY SMALL FISHING BOAT, WITH A SEDUCING, FULL LEATHER RECLINER LAID BACK, ON A NICE AND PEACEFUL LAKE, PADDLING OUT TO A GOOD AREA, AND I DROP ANCHOR AND PULL OUT MY ROD AND REEL, BUT I PUT NO BAIT ON MY HOOK BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO BE DISTURBED BY ANY FISH, OR ANY HUMANS, FOR THAT MATTER, which is the only sure-fire way that the HSR can psychologically decompress in this busy 21st Century life, and so that your “I love to get out of the city at night and look up at the stars of the Milky Way and dream about how life is in far-away places” smile, can wake up refreshed in the dewy morning to the homely smell of eggs and bacon cooking in the natural wilderness camp deep in the woods.

“In times of ultimate need…the force just may be with you!”

Quick background: every time the dentist is close to finishing his mission, another obstacle is placed squarely in this path. This time, he is knocked unconscious, and he might not make it out alive!

I was hit in the head by a large boulder, and I can feel my conscious mind becoming blurred.

The mortar, pestle, and sword start slipping out of my weakening hands, and I need some fresh oxygen down here underwater as I hold my breath.

But I don’t seem to care anymore…this is where it ends, I guess.

I’m thinking that I’ll never make it back home now. “Dang, I shouldn’t have touched that baby tooth back at the office! The lady warned me, but, did I listen? Nooo!!” I pinchingly remind myself.

Suddenly, to my surprise, a beautiful mermaid swims up to me with the mortar and pestle, and places them in one hand. She then places the sword back into my weak other hand and blows some oxygen-rich air into my mouth and lungs to save me.

As she finishes giving me mouth-to-mouth air, I feel like it’s more of an energizing kiss!

I shake loose from her and try to smash the baby tooth into the mortar one more time.

But as I raise the pestle, I hear the mermaid shriek in agonizing pain as she is gripped by a gigantic crab, which is about to use it’s crushing arm to slice the mermaid in two.

I place the mortar and pestle into my pants pockets, and grab one of the spears still floating round me, and hurriedly thrust it into the mouth of the chomping crab.

In a smooth move, I also flick the sword to sever off the killer claw of the crab so it won’t do anymore harm.

I feel like I have my strength and my wits about me once again. The mermaid is bleeding, but she slowly elevates with me to the water’s surface.

I look quickly around, to see if those cave people are still there, planning to throw something else at me.

Partially hiding behind some walls, I see them, and they are about to draw their arms back to throw more spears.

But all four cavemen are attacked from behind and taken out of my view, by something I can’t see, and they scream loudly with the fear of death in them.

The mermaid and I keep quiet a little longer to see if what attacked the cavemen might also come for us…

…but it’s silent…and you know what happens right after silent pauses!

Now I struggle to lift the injured mermaid and myself out of the water onto some steps where the cavemen were.

And not a moment too soon!

Giant, voracious piranha fish rush to the surface and make the water "bubble" trying to get to us with their ferocious attitudes and hunger and teeth!

Three or four of them hop and wiggle out of the water to find and bite us, but I strike at them in rapid succession with my sword in a blur, cleanly cutting each of them in half.

As their parts fall back into the water, the other fish quickly devour what’s left of the cut fish.

We both look around to see what happened to the primate men who left.

I get up and walk around the area, but they are nowhere to be found.

However, I see that there are some spears left. I pick up a spear holster and four spears that they left behind and sling them over my shoulder.

I still wonder what happened to the men. And, as always, I think, “might I be next?!”

So, I walk back to the mermaid. She is profusely bleeding now.

“Use the shiny tips of the spears to reflect the light of the three suns.  You must not fail!” informatively urges the increasingly weak mermaid.

I hold up her slumping body and shake her a little, and ask her, “Who sent you to help me?”

Her unsteady eyes roll back to show all white, but they come back, as she gasps, and she weakly says, “The people back home sent me!”

“What! The people back home, where are you talking about?” I shake her some more, but she expires right as I am holding her.

“This baby tooth thing is much deeper than I thought. Maybe some gigantic forces are working through me to contest a battle that I cannot comprehend!” I think.

I walk out into the air. Now I see that I am at the outer part of the mountain top.

There, off in one direction, is a massively gorgeous sunset or sunrise, I don’t know which!

I look to the opposite side and see some swirling, darkening clouds that could only portend ominous meanings ahead.

Looking down the side of the tall mountain upon which I precariously stand, I kick a small rock and watch it fall and bounce its long way down into the dark.

At that moment, out of the corner of my eye, I see a shadow quickly fly by on the ground.

All of a sudden I am…!

TO BE CONTINUED…

May you have many…I don’t mind going to the dentist; I have no pain because all of my teeth are implants!...boy, do I love climbing the main mast on my sailboat to sit in the roomy Crow’s Nest, so that I can see for miles in all directions, and hide from swabbing the deck chores!…we'll be able to walk through "air doors" and step into other dimensions, and back, soon! … smiles!

Smiling And Laughter…Open Up Wide, Say Aah, And Take These Medicines Now! Part 3.

AFTER TAKING IN THE SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE BIG, COLD CANADIAN BANFF LAKE...

EMBRACED BY TALL, AMPLY-SNOW-COVERED, WILDLIFE-SATURATED, SOLID GRANITE MOUNTAINS ON THREE SIDES, THE HSR, TAKES A REALLY DEEP BREATH OF WHAT MUST BE THE PUREST AIR ON THE PLANET, JUST LIKE HIS THERAPIST SHOWED HIM,

THEN HOLDS IT IN FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE, THEN EXHALES REALLY SLOWLY, IN A CLASSIC MEDITATIVE FASHION, THEN LOOKS AROUND ON THE GROUND AND FINDS A  SMOOTH, FLAT, COOKIE-SHAPED ROCK, INSPECTS IT CLOSELY WITH SCRATCHING AND RUBBING FINGERS, THEN TAKES A BIG PREPITCH WINDUP, THAT HAS HIM TURNING COMPLETELY AROUND THREE TIMES (SINCE NO ONE IS WATCHING, EXCEPT FOR THAT FAMILY OF POINTNG AND LAUGHING BEARS...

BEHIND THE TALL PINES), THEN HSR SPINS AROUND ONE MORE TIME THE OPPOSITE WAY, SORT OF LIKE WHAT AUSTIN POWERS WOULD DO, THEN SLINGS THE ROCK OUT WITH THE GREATEST AND FASTEST OF EASE, MAKING IT ZOOM PARALLEL TO THE LAKE’S SURFACE WHICH, ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF PHYSICS, ALLOWS THE ROCK TO MAKE A GREATER NUMBER OF SKIPS ON THE WATER,

MAYBE FOUR, FIVE, AND IF SUPREMELY LUCKY, SIX OF THEM, because this was just one of the things that the HSR did when he was a kid, and, by the way, your “I know we went to that ski resort that cost a lot of money and all, but I only wanted to stay in the ski lodge and sit and watch the large exciting fire in the fireplace” smile,

is being called to the principal’s office for the major infraction of taking an extra meatball in the lunch line!

Experiencing, exploring and enjoying our lives with optimism, inspiration, gratitude, love,  laughter, and sincere smiling infuses and strengthens us with many short-term and long-term physiological benefits, including helping us to:

-burn about 50 calories from a 10-15 minute bout of continuous, rollicking giggling

-learn that active, prolonged, animated, lung-clearing laughter mimics healthy aerobic exercise

-bump up the level of infection-fighting antibodies like salivary immunoglobulin A (IgA)

-use therapeutic humor to improve mindset

-enrich your supply of natural killer T cells and B white blood cells

-lighten up and not take life too seriously

-attract other people toward us

-handle loss, resentments, disagreements, and sadness better

-improve cerebrovascular and cardiovascular flow and resilience

-develop effective coping mechanisms using rationalization

-develop senses of humor

-reinforce priceless, pleasant memories

May you have many…what do those high fashion super models think about when sashaying down the runway to have that far away look on their faces?...when someone wants to run their fingers through your hair—just be thankful that you have hair!...you are what you think, how you feel, and you are what you accomplish!…smiles!

The Phenomenon Of The Human Smile Is Worthy Of Its Own Universe!

THE HEAVY AND SOGGY-DIAPERED, LONG-SLING-DROOLING-EVERYWHERE, MULTIPLE DRAW-OPENING, GENERAL HAVOC-WREAKING, DOG-TAIL-PULLING, SNOT-NOSE SNIFFIN’, JUST BARELY WALKING, BABY HSR REACHES FOR SOMETHING THAT HE’S NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH, AND HIS MOMMA SHOUTS “NO!,” MAKING THE YOUNG HSR OPEN IT’S BIG MOUTH WIDE AND CRY LOUDLY, SHOWING HIS TWO TEETH AT THE BOTTOM IN THE FRONT…WAIT…WHAT’S THAT…THOSE AREN’T TEETH… THOSE ARE HIS FIRST TWO BLOG POSTS!…THE START OF A VIRTUAL DENTITION! ...AWW…ISN’T THAT CUTE…and, of course, your “but sir, why are you holding your computer as if it were a baby? And I reply, “It is…The infant HSR…Who shall grow up to inform citizens of their inalienable rights to Beautiful Smiles!”” smile, sat down on a bench in the garden and thought, “What would the people behind the mirrors see, if they were to look into other mirrors?”

“Life is an adventure not to be feared, but an adventure to be revved up and relished!”

Man, since the birth of Man, has always fallen for the look and the bite of a beautiful woman. And vice versa.

An anatomically optimized, golden proportioned, and orthodontically aligned and synergized smile “made to beautifully fit together” with the rest of the face and body, magnetically (on a psychological level) attracts the attention and vision of people drawn to such.

For hundreds and hundreds of years, the great writers, painters, sculptors, observers, philosophers, and aesthetic experts have mused about how the smile is intimately associated with the most wonderful and euphoric of internal emotions and how it relates to the outward showing of kindness, joy, love, and happiness.

Know that some people don’t want to smile when they are happy, because they don’t want to seem weak, or don’t want an observer to otherwise know the nonsmiler’s true feelings.

You’ve heard of the term, “poker face?”

A person could be so happy to receive a royal flush in a card game, that they are doing cartwheels and jumping up and down in the mind, while on the outside, what people can see, they remain as cool as a cucumber, and no one will pick up on it.

Conversely, a player could have the world’s worse combination of cards, but facio-strategically wants to fake, or bluff the other players into a spot with a no emotion reaction.

Yes, there are different types of smiles, but what makes a happy person burst out a true grin?

Well, a French Neurologist by the name of Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne de Boulogne-sur-Mer, a serious studier of facial expressions and other facial phenomena in the mid 1800s, concluded that when the zygomaticus muscles, which raise up the corners of the mouth, are simultaneously accompanied by the contracting lateral orbicularis oculi muscles, which form the squinting or Crow’s Feet on the sides of the eyes, then the smiler can be said to show a genuine, heartfelt, or “Duchenne” smile!

A barely-there, Pan Am, botox, or Mona Lisa smile is a minimal-contraction gesture, just slightly using the zygomaticus muscles to almost hint at an upturn of the mouth’s corners. Who knows what can be going on in the mind of a smiler that expresses at this minimal level of facial commitment!

The biggest and happiest smile known to science, which includes the Duchenne contraction requirements, and adds the closed eyes, and a couple of other muscle groups, to the full smile is termed the “Winge” smile, or the InfiniSmile, and was first elucidated in 2014 by Pacific Coast Dentist Ralph Winge, D.D.S.

So, as with many times, where we can only obtain cues and signals from face value, the real motivations behind a smile are, and have always been, and always will be, within the mind of the smiler.

You might remember the story about the face that launched a thousand ships, and caused big wars and battles, where many soldiers of fortune went on to meet their Maker…well, the woman that the story talks about didn’t have a bucked or otherwise jacked-up smile, you can bet!

She, without a doubt, had a face that could dependably hypnotize and mesmerize even the strongest and most powerful of men!

The allure, the mystery and the beauty of the smile complex…comes in many shades, sizes, and thanks to lipstick, many colors.

But what would a nicely structured smile look like without the compliment and support of nicely structured surrounding lips…it wouldn’t look right or maybe even horrible!

Thanks, Mother Nature for the yin and yang mouth—the hard teeth and soft lips! They’re inseparable!

In my practice, no matter how many smiles I have seen as a dentist, the next new day brings forth more new smiles, and some of them are “shock wowers” because they totally fit in with the face and produce that “ephemeral jolt” when first beheld, that requisitely accompanies a perfect “MegaSmile!”

Natural ones like that are very few and far between! So, I pinch myself when I see one!

Let’s talk more on this!...

May you have many…wow, powerful, antibiotic-producing bacteria found in the ground are being isolated, grown, and studied, while still kept in the soil medium in the ground, inside of small steel-caged “compartments”—because we haven’t learned how to grow these bacteria in the lab yet—so in this case, regular old dirt beats out the age-old Petri Dish as an initial growth medium...how would you describe the feelings felt when you get some money?...I saw a time-lapse video of the unique cloud action in our Earth’s atmosphere along our tallest and coldest mountains , seeing wind, moisture, and high altitude intersect, resulting in that local cloud atmosphere “acting  liquidy” in character…smiles!
